This beautiful estate is complemented by the award-winning wines which they produce. Previously planted vineyards are now coming into their full maturity, which will herald even more awards for these sought-after wines.
The historic farm was granted to Adriaan van der Stel on 1 February 1700 and today is characterised by a magical atmosphere with historic camphor trees, an octagonal garden and stately homestead. Amfarms purchased the farm in 1987 and started a major replanting program and construction of a modern wine cellar.
A 300-year old estate, Lourensford serves both as a link to the noble beginnings of South Africa’s wine industry and as a bright beacon of its future.
The only cellar of its kind in the Southern hemisphere, Lourensford utilizes a 100% gravity driven system, as well as several custom built sorting tables, to ensure that Lourensford wines are of impeccable quality. The cellar is being built to exacting standards of quality and excellence. To be completed on the 8th of November 2002, it will soon produce more than two million bottles of wine per year.
